Seeking advice. How do you advocate for roadmap initiatives that would improve the user experience yet have no direct, measurable impact on revenue? If the experience is good enough that people still use the product, how do you make a strong argument for innovation and sell it to leadership?

Data, A/B testing, surveys, user interviews, etc. test it out, prove that it's making users like your product more.

And no, everything can link up to revenue if you play it well enough

like

Maybe you don't. Good product management is knowing what not to do just as much as it is knowing what to do. Lol at your biggest problems, measure them, then decide which opportunities will move the needle on those problems. Not everything good idea is worth doing.

like

Think about the impact on revenue retention. Will improving the experience reduce churn. Keeping customers is as important as getting new ones!

like

I'm not suggesting that's the golden ticket, the op asked for ways to advocate, suggesting the initiative didn't have a direct impact on revenue. I'm offering one approach that may show how improving customer experience may have that impact. I agree that it's not binary, there's multiple considerations that contribute to a priority decision.

like

There are plenty of other hugely important metrics to a business rather than just revenue: CSAT, retention, NPS etc.

As others say above, make use of testing to prove how your initiative will improve the relevant metrics, then make that value clear to the business when staking its place in the roadmap 👍

like

this is important. other measures of value matter, not just revenue! (especially because it is often hard to really track revenue to features)

Everything a product manager brings forward for roadmap consideration is a bet. Know what your company culture and leaders care about and help them make the right bet with you. If revenue is the only metric your leaders care about then that sounds kind of boring, but you can always tie it back to user retention, competitive bar meet or raising (increased sales), and/or storytelling for sales (increased sales). Have a sales leader be a champion for you to back you up. Keep up the fight!

I'm an engineer, and I feel like my manager is more of a friend than anything else. We talk about our personal lives, and I feel like it's hard to be completely honest with her when she's so casual with me. I don't want to lose our friendship, but I also need to be able to talk honestly with someone who has the power to help me grow professionally. Is there a way to have both?

I am so beyond ready to leave my current job, but can’t yet, since bonuses are paid out in January. 😬

In the meantime, I’ve applied to a lot of similar roles (slightly higher) but have not heard - good or bad - from any. Is it common for companies to slow down hiring in December because of Q4 rush, people on holiday, etc.?

Ikon or epic pass for NE skiing?

Hi there!
I completed the last round of an interview (presentation) last week. Originally they said they would be calling my references & then make an offer accordingly.
Today they updated that they'd like me to travel to their HQ (based in Nordics & I'm in London) for the final round where I'd meet the CEO, the hiring manager and a couple of people in the team.
I don't think I'm the only one in the process - even though initially the last round was the presentation.
What are your thoughts?

Should I move to another firm and take the higher pay (20% more) and do more work I’d enjoy doing and have better growth and long term career potential, while sacrificing my current title (would have to step down from associate to analyst), WLB, and team chemistry?

I work at a ‘free market’ firm and have developed a very good reputation among partners. Naturally, they are drowning me in work. Each time a new case comes up, the partner will email asking if I have “time and interest” in helping. When I’m at capacity, I take these words at face value and explain why I can’t do it, and that seems to work out ok with no hard feelings. But what’s the “interest” thing? If I don’t want to work on a toxic tort case, do I just say that and pass?

I think it’s insane how quickly people forgot what a normal car price is. I’m looking at reviews for poorly equipped vehicles selling for $40k and people are calling them values. Like on what planet? Plastic steering wheel, manual climate controls, cloth seats, 4cyl engine, etc etc and $40k is “value”. How can I be mad at OEMs and dealers when there are idiots buying these things?

911 Carrera S vs GTS

I really want to do a low key spec on my next car but it’s almost impossible to spec the GTS without black wheels/accents turning it into a more aggressive looking car.

Thoughts on if the GTS in a 7 speed is more engaging than the S enough to justify the compromise in wheel selection?

As of late, my work related anxiety has reached new levels and it’s really starting to affect me mentally. I’m part of a great team; I’m trusted and supported, have a great track record, there are no issues, and have been no incidents. Regardless, my professional self perception and confidence is so rattled as of late, it’s almost like a paralysis at times. I realize there are much larger problems right now, but if anyone has any tips or advice to get over this, I am all ears. Thanks all!

With product design questions, I struggle to identify user groups. Once I do everything starts flowing and I’m confident. But the initial identification of user groups is something I find challenging. What’s your go-to way of doing this? For example, the question “design a podcasting app for truck drivers.” What types of truck drivers can I select so that I can prioritize a user group to focus on and begin identification of pain points and solutions?

I’m looking for a product manager role . I have approx 8 years of experience including my MBA. I have about 1.5 years of experience in a hybrid role between customer success and product. I additionally have approx 4.5 years of experience in retail and e-commerce marketing roles.

Does anyone know of any open roles within their company I could apply for ? Would appreciate any leads.

I don't mind doing it for free, tbh it helps me more than it may help them. Does anyone charge for this and promote themselves?
