Seeking general career advice - some context:
Im a CPA, and spent a couple years in public as an auditor, then went to an analytics consulting firm for a couple years, and now have been in corporate accounting for the last year.
5 years into my career I have no idea what I want to do yet in the long term. I haven’t liked my time in audit or Corp accounting, but didnt mind the work I did in analytics besides the client facing work. Any advice on what to do for my career?

It's awesome that you've been able to experience several different roles. I think you need to just set goals at reaching milestones. Im actually going to switch roles to corporate acct in a few weeks. Curious what you analytics consulting firm was called?

It was a small group out of EY consulting

Figure out what you like and don’t like in your jobs. Write it down on a piece of paper. It will help you think it through.

Thank you, director! What do you like about your job?

My title is a bit out of date. I am a CFO now. What I like is focusing on operations and helping build something. Building is very rewarding at many levels. Having people on the team who have a curious mind is most important and people who take Initiative. Having people that can understand accounting, analyze and apply are a rare breed. The most important thing, though is having ethical people that you can trust that will do the right thing when it’s hard not when it’s easy.

For startup founders/people with a successful side project: How did you get the idea/inspiration for your business? I’m currently working at a Series B startup and my end goal has always been to found my own startup, but I graduated from college 2.5 years ago and I still have not had any great ideas cross my mind. I do spend a fair amount of time brainstorming. I don’t want to continue working here forever, but I’m struggling to generate that “this is it” idea to build a company for. Any advice?

I am keen to transition to FAANG/UK but not sure if I should continue in people’s business! Or should I try RPM/APM opportunities as I am currently leading full cycle work with cross functional teams I feel that might be nice thing to take a look at.

Is there other promising career paths I can transition to within tech?

I would like to first commend the attorney for starting this bowl. I attended a T4 school and was stuck in doc review for years. However through networking, I made connections which gave me a chance to get my foot through the door. One I did I knew they would have to physically drag me out of that firm if they wanted me to leave. Now I’m a partner at a multi-state/national firm. I’m always looking for similarly situated young attorneys to mentor and help. Anyone out there feel free to pm me.
