Love my Tumi suitcase and backpacks. It’s an unwritten rule that everyone in the group have one 😌
Tumi is a bit outside my budget too. I want a large (100+ L) suitcase that ideally weighs <10 lbs / 5 kg. And trying not to spend more than $500. Samsonite seems to be the only one that offers this...

The Platinum Elite suitcase is <$500 and holds 108L.

So much nostalgia for when we used to talk about travel stuff🥰
I have a Monos and Paravel. I’ve had Samonsite in the past. Just my opinion: Samsonite suitcases are not as strong / sturdy as they used to be. If you bought a Samonsite years ago, it’s probably fairly sturdy.
Last year, when I was looking for hard suitcases, I was hesitant to buy Paravel and Monos because of $$, but ultimately, I picked something that could withstand all the suitcase throws. Monos may still have a sale going on. Paravel has sales closer to year-end.
My friends are into luggages so I first learned about them 2 years ago—bought a Paravel duffle (very affordable) for my Copenhagen trip in 2019. Then, I started doing research, reading reviews and searching for any good comparison articles, on suitcases carried by different brands (Samonsite, Away, Paravel, etc.). I also went on Nordstrom Rack and other big retailers to look at the suitcases there, too.

I've got a Samsonite and some random ones I bought at Costco. I see no need to play the idiotic suitcase prestige game.
I liked my samsonite but it’s now falling apart after just 4 years
How much do you want to spend? I often see sales on Tumi stuff, which although isn’t as durable as it probably was years ago is still essentially indestructible; my backpack alone has seen hundreds of thousands of miles of various types of travel-related abuse...
Try Nordstrom Rack, Saks Off 5th, and eBay for deals, as well as Tumi itself, which always seems to be having *some* type of sale.
Any reason you didn’t add Away to that list?
Honestly, one could make the case that unless you’re *constantly* traveling you could go to TJ Maxx and spend $50 for luggage. Even if you replace it 5-10x you’re paying less than the average high end bag...
Tumi, had backpack for 8 years. 4 in college to hold beers, it still looks brand new. Have a carry on and suit bag too
I got a Skyway suitcase off Amazon for $40. 7 years and still going strong. Honestly no point spending on a high end suitcase. Not enough value.
I seem to go through suitcases pretty quickly and having a suitcase break open or even like lose a wheel mid trip would be a nightmare so I don’t want to go too cheap
Travel Pro is a very reliable inexpensive brand.
Good friend on CPI told me that Costco's Kirkland brand uses the same components as Tumi.
Away. You can fit a whole week in the larger carry-on.
I want the largest lightest checked bag available. Aways biggest are <100L and 12 lbs
