Should I leave?
My firm just increased comp. for 1st years but raised comp. for all other years by a smaller amount (we’re talking third or less).
This seems like a blatant attempt to scoop new grads with the expectation of turnover or in the hopes they’ll feel stuck and stay. The pay compression feels obvious to me. Can we agree this is a red flag and that I should leave? TYIA!

Feel like I am potentially on the verge of developing tendonitis / carpal tunnel. I try to keep my (standing) desk ergonomically aligned but the reality is that I spend 8-14 hrs a day typing (and, probably, tense) and I’m concerned about rendering myself physically unable to do this job. Any entertaining stories about opposing counsel just losing their mind on you in court or over the phone? How do you respond to opposing counsel who is being rude, unreasonable, or verbally abusive?

It is in appropriate to ask what the compensation for a position is after a first interview if they want you to go on three more and the interviewers on my first told me that was above their pay grade to tell me?????

Seems kind of ridiculous for a business to want to waste so much time to find out after a handful of interviews that the pay isnt aligned with my needs ......

I’ve been so specialized for so long I’m not even sure how to answer this question for myself. Once upon a time I was somewhat interested in tax but I’m worried that’s where fun goes to die. I kinda dig admin law, although that’s cheating a bit because I work with a federal agency.

Career Sabbatical?

Can anyone who has taken a career sabbatical to travel/explore other interests share their experience with both leaving their jobs and returning to the legal field?
I really want to live in Asia for a year at least before I have to settle down and start a family. I’m not getting younger but don’t want to be reckless with my career.

What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice?
