First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. That is hard, I can not relate to it but I can relate to loss, deep loss. I too, lost my job 6 months after my husband passed away. The grief was hard, super hard. I even tried to go back to college and it was too hard for me emotionally. So, I know loss.
Yes, keep that 6month position on there and label it as temporary only. The two year gap, you can explain as part of your grief period. Because you were grieving. Grief affects everyone differently.
I had one woman ask me in an interview, what can I do to avoid the grief from affecting me, I was very offended at her question so I told her, well, my husband, he cannot die again. I could not give her an answer on the status of my grief if it would never trigger me again or not. I chose not to work for that company and it worked out because they never called me back. The point is, when explaining the 2 year gap, while it looks bad on paper with an logical explanation there should be understanding. It's not as if you were purposely skipping out of work or being a responsible person. You were healing. Do not allow companies to intimidate you or make you feel less than you who you are because you took time away to do whatever you needed to do. Just be confident, strong, professional, pleasant, and firm. You do not owe them anything.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so sorry for the loss of your husband. I know I will always grieve my child but I’m better in terms of handling my grief. I agree that if a company takes issue with my loss, I don’t want to work there either. I decided to keep the job on my resume and funny thing, an interview I went on recently told me that job is what attracted them the most from my resume.
i would think its better not easier to explain the loss of a child

YES!! Attractions are great! Did they hire you on that job that was attracted? Let me know. I surely hope so.
