Does your firm typically promote after 2 years or is the typical promotion to senior after 2 years? Many firms are on a 3 year promotion cycle to senior.
Not necessarily. We're top 10 and promotions are very much split between 2-3 years. Some top performers get it at 2 years, but many of our pretty good folks are held to 3 years. How I see it is that we want our new seniors to be prepared for the role, it's a big step and we don't want to throw people into the fire that aren't ready and then they'll burn out and quit. So we try to guide them to what they can focus on this year to prepare better, so that (1) they can show that they continue to grow and (2) so they're prepared for that next big step we're asking them to take. I've seen people promoted too early and it doesn't usually turn out well. If I were you, I'd take the extra time as a gift - finish your exams, learn as much as you can, and then kick butt as a senior next year.
Something’s not adding up if you got great reviews and no promo. What exactly did they say when they said you had a great ratings but they’re still not promoting you
I had a meeting with my manager, it's mostly among project management skills. For the large public company client, I didn't do much on project management. I do have a chance to manage our project on a Mid size Private client with 3/31 year end, but that's not enough.
Firms are promoting less on tenure and more on readiness. Couple this with the fact that attrition is low these days, there are less slots for promotion each year end which hurts the business case for promotion. Just use the additional time to develop yourself based on feedback, be proactive, and finish those exams. This is coming from someone who’s going from S4 to M1. Your time will come. If you don’t get senior after your A3, you may want to consider other employers.
Depends on the norm.foe your firm. Some firms its pretty automatic after 2 years, some it is normal to take 3 years
