My senior and manager got in a yelling match and the senior just quit and walked out. These two have been going at it for over a year and it finally
Happened!

Lol. Your team is so fucked.

I think it started over little audit stuff. Not sure. each of them are nice people but it turns sour whenever they are in the room together. It has gotten progressively worse over time. Last week they argued about how we should sample something and started yelling. This time it was over one of them tapping their foot. One time it was about if we should open the blinds or not. It starts on things like that and goes into personal attacks. I've never seen two people who hate each other more. I will miss the entertainment.

likefunny

Yeah please give some deets. Which side were you rooting for? Was it over something trivial like font size?

likefunny

Man some people just need realize this isn’t brain surgery. Never a need to freak out over an audit.

And then, they started to kiss.

This was not a good climax. #disappointed

Unfortunately this poor sap will be performing manager and senior duties on this engagement. Maybe you’ll get a $150 high five award after it is all said and done. That is if you don’t eff things up!

What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

I’m new to the firm. My third project my manager was very hands off. He’s wants to have a discussion with me about my performance. He did not give me any support to work with; even when I asked! And my direct manager agrees with him, but it was my third week. What to do? I feel like I’m going to say something crazy. Any advice?

We had evaluations and normally we have annual raises. I think my salary is under market value at $68k (plus OT) in Los Angeles (5 years of experience). I was told I am one of the top employees in the firm. When I asked about a raise, I was told “when you think about it at your level 5k to 10k doesn’t really matter it’s the long term goal that matters”. What would be your response to that, to a partner who is making 500-600k a year?
