Should I take ESOPs?

I just recently got offered ESOPs. While I'm trying to understand how it works and what benefits it has I'm a little confused about the thing related to it.

Will my in hand salary reduce?
How will it affect my CTC?
Will I get tax benefits?
Will I be able to cash it if I leave the company?
And
Should I take ESOPs?

I am a proposal manager for federal consulting company. My base is low (112000) but I make up upto 50-70% of my base income with win bonuses. But I get the bonus only after the completion of one year of the base period of the contract. My question is -is this arrangement good or should I negotiate for higher base instead ?
