Whistleblower protections for employees, of course. But I think smart companies have to create an environment that encourages employees to speak up and engage in a meaningful dialog when they see unethical behavior...and reward people who demonstrate that courage. If they don't, we know what happens...some will just leave (bad for company), others will go public with it or go to the government (potential disaster). For customers, it's the same...they'll take the business somewhere else or go public with it.
To protect these rights, it's about creating an ethical culture...that takes a real, human, authentic and intentional effort. Employees get real influence when they're empowered to speak up, and participate in the ethical process...for example, at Airbnb we have ethics advisors, who are employees who have day jobs in each area of the company (customer support, marketing, engineering, finance etc) in all the geographies...they participate in a meaningful way in defining ethical conduct, and encouraging employees to raise concerns.
