Silly question. How do you network with alumni who are within the same field as you (with goal of eventually getting a referral)? What do you ask and talk about?

Express interest in the company, ask about their role, mention specific job’s that interest you. Ask if there’s anything you should be doing to make yourself a more competitive candidate (at which point they may offer to refer). Having been the alumni in this situation numerous times, I’m well aware of what the person is after and am happy to refer

I reach out to them on LinkedIn with the excuse of asking questions on their company and advices on how to apply. 99% of the time they offer to give me a call and they end up being the one offering me a referral. I am tempted to say I have been lucky, but it has happened so many times at this point. Unless I have some secret charm power, which I doubt, I think most people don’t try to do this

helpful

Probably easier to get a referral on here, if that’s all you’re after

Don’t do it for the sake of doing it or sucking up. Your attitude and lack of career direction will show. If you genuinely want to know more about how they did, get advice from them - then talk to them.

It helps to actually be interested in the person

I have a recurring thought that really brings me down and I can’t seem to get past it.
Some days I feel I am pretty good at what I do (not a leadership role) but then I see leaders in my own organization that are great at what they do and I don’t believe that I could ever get to their level of competence. Then I think of all the people my age who are appear to be doing those things and wonder we what’s wrong with me.
Have any of you felt this and how have you gotten past it?

Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).

Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.

Thanks for the help!

Getting married in September, have a vax only policy for guests. My fiancé’s sister is bringing her unvaccinated spouse to the hotel where all the wedding festivities are being held b/c she is too scared to fly on an airplane without him. Any ideas as to what (if anything) to do?

Do we get chance to negotiate when we receive the letter tomorrow ? Or they provide the final letter only ?

My partner and I are planning to elope. We want the wedding and the trip that will go with it to be for us. That being said, we want to throw a party of some kind to celebrate with our friends. We're pretty lost as far as the general etiquette around this goes. Do you have to tell venues it's for a "wedding" reception? Is it expected that we will still make a gift registry?

One key selling point, as they are trying to offer is the opportunity to work one day a week to use for things like training, acquiring certifications or building applications that you are interested in.

This sounds amazing. I don't get that at my current job. So, is this too good to be true? I would like your opinion on this.
