Joint work is very valuable and is as phrased earlier, tuition. 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing. Many times we get on our "island" and miss the opportunity to learn from others.
i have been in the business for 29 years. I was faced with a similar situation early in my career. I linked up with a trusted Senior advisor that i respected and we closed the case. Take the lead but use the help and expwertise. 75/25 Part of something is better than none of 0.
How big is the account? We all know $50m net worth doesn’t mean $50m account.
Any additional updates?
Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. If you have a fair competent senior advisor, even if you don't get the client, learning from the senior person is tution payment you make too be able to feel more comfortable going forward. If you don't have an experienced person with your firm you can trust fund a firm that does.
Congratulations. And how did you get a $50MM prospect as a newbie?
Wtf?!? Like $50M investable assets?
Don't worry. He'll figure that out almost immediately. Question is, how charitable is he??
I’m jealous but determine their biggest concern and focus on that, but encourage him to talk and listen and take notes
First I wanted to say congratulations on the potential new client.
Just remember, wealthy people are human beings too and there’s nothing super special about one person more so than the other. I would encourage you to listen to his goals and ask follow-up questions. Make sure that this PROSPECT knows that you work with a team of individuals that are there to assist his financial concerns. Also make sure that you understand what his expectations are of you as a potential financial advisor for him. I would encourage you to learn more about him personally as well. By the time you complete all of these things, the meeting time should be over with. Don’t give him all the time in the world in a meeting, he needs to know that you’re busy and you have other clients to take care of.
If that still doesn’t work, just send him to me.
How did it go?
Congrats Op!
Good job! Halfway to SEC registration :)
Make sure client knows he is meeting with more than just you. Don’t call your colleague a senior advisor. You want him there for an additional perspective and it’s good to have additional input and ideas
Agree
To be fair, if I was a business man or whatever and worked my ass off for $50M, I'd give any XYZ advisor a shot, but anything less than thoroughly impressed would lead me to the next advisor down the street.
There are always other fish in the sea, and a good advisor knows it's all about the long game
How much are you getting?
Congrats 😎👍
