Cut off,..or at least put them on the side. I think different people play a different role in your life. My own friends, work as registered assistants and that’s all they strive for. They are a reminder of where I don’t want to be. My sister is small minded, gossipy etc. I have not cut her off but choose carefully what I share with her. My mother 75, uses a walker and complains all day long. Reminder to myself to keep working out. Most do not understand my drive or why I network etc. That’s ok. Surround yourself with individuals that want to see you succeed.
Depends on your definition of ambition....
Honestly I see that God has placed certain people in my life to help keep balance for me. They are some of the only ways that I have to warn me I’m working too hard or not taking care of things that are really important (faith, family, health).
So before you just “cut off” people and relationships....I would take a step back and be careful of potentially surrounding yourself only with people who are workaholics or driven by greed (money, fame, and things of this world).
I read a book recently called “When the game is over...it all goes back in the box” by John Ortberg. It sure helped me refocus on who I need to surround myself with and what should be of importance in my life.
Good luck.
But if you are ever in a time of need—sick family member or disability—who will support you? Your true friends or the workaholics? And conversely, who will you be there for in a crisis?
I need to be surrounded by workaholics and greedy people. How do I meet people like that?
