So have been asked by Capital One to take part in a code assessment. It's for a Sr. Management position and I'm told they don't place as much "weight" on the results as they would for someone interviewing for a software engineering position. It uses CodeSignal. Personally, I find these types of assessments are not good measurements of a person's acumen, but that's just what some companies go with for their process. Anyone here been through this with Cap One?

I chose to decline the assessment after seeing the questions. It's all just array manipulation and CS 101 BS. Plus they want you to share your screen and have the camera on the entire time. Their IDE doesn't even allow you to break out my code into different functions. I chose C# in this case. TOTALLY ineffective way to gauge acumen and a waste of time. I told them to pass because their process was flawed.

Yeah it's very standard but I haven't been through it with Cap One, just a million other companies. That's great they told you the assessment won't matter too much, but still dumb they're having you do it if it's not an especially technical role. Do your best and focus on the interviews more than the assessmenet

I am surprised I was given the same test for a Sr. Engineering Manager role. All 4 questions were DSA focused. This is a good way to disqualify candidates with experience leading engineering teams who have not been hands on coding for several years.

I can appreciate that a company wants to really know that you know what you are talking about, but these assessments are kind of out of control. Same thing with the interview process as a whole, it needs to be simplified and streamlined. Can’t speak for Capital One, my experience though is that they are asking a lot.

I am also selected for Sr. Manager role asking for CodeSignal coding questions. What was your experience? If you can share some more detail and list of questions or type of questions

Hi , how was your assessment? What was the level of the questions - Leetcode Simple/Medium/hard?

Hey, I hear you on the CodeSignal assessment for Capital One’s Senior Management role. I’ve been through it, and yeah, it’s not the best measure of skills, but it’s part of their process. Based on my experience and what I’ve learned, the test is less coding-heavy than for engineering roles, focusing more on SQL, data analysis, and business problem-solving. Expect four questions in about 70 minutes—stuff like array manipulation, SQL queries (joins, aggregations), or business metrics like ROI.I prepped using DataLemur for Capital One-style questions and practiced timed mock tests to get the rhythm down. The proctoring’s strict—ID check, screen share, webcam on—so set up properly. You can look up syntax but not full solutions. Stick to your strongest language (I used Python) and manage time by tackling easier questions first.I wrote a complete review of my interview experience on my personal page, Linkjob. You can check it out.

Has anyone ever asked to renegotiate their salary after starting a job? I’m 2 months into my new job and I have far more responsibilities than what I was told. It’s a lot different than what was relayed in the posting and during the interviews. Additionally, they hired my counter part in as a senior manager which is at least $30k more than what I make. My peer has more experience so I expect that but I feel that I should be paid more, however I don’t want to leave a bad impression… any advice?

Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday. Excited since this is a hop from a Product Analyst role and entails an offer of over $30,000 from what I'm getting now! This would be a permanent full-time compared to my current contractor role that ends in March.
