My boss hits on me—and I kinda like it.
Any single women like houses?
Happy Friday, y’all!!

I'm already tired tomorrow. 😴
Hi Fishes, Y.O.E 7.5+ years. Tata Consultancy TCS is offering 25LPA including variable pay and everything. So just 15% increment on my current salary since they mentioned I am leaving my current organization within 1 year.
They mentioned 8-12% is VP plus 80k from that salary is paid at the end of each year. Is it a good enough salary for 7.5+ yoe candidate. Also any heads up for the things I should look out for will be really helpful.

Just relax. That’s why we have malpractice insurance. Love and learn from it. It won’t be a big deal
I sooo feel your pain. I, too, would be throwing myself on my sword. Having said that, there are checks and balances that were missed, clearly and ALL of them were not yours. Work with your attorney to resolve the issues and put more/better checks and balances in place to prevent future gaffs. Be a part of the solution.
Find a the most senior decision-maker you can in the firm and notify them. Don’t sit on the information. Malpractice carrier may need to get involved to evaluate but waiting to inform management won’t help anyone. Hold off on the resignation - that’s a drastic step.
Don’t resign. Relax and let it play out. Nothing you can do now, and you are a paralegal. NO ONE should be holding a paralegal responsible for this.
I REALLY don’t think it’s going to happen, but it is actually better to be fired than to resign! You need unemployment benefits and severance until you find a new job and you will forfeit that if you resign.
Is this in NY? If so, the benefits of the 228 toll may be helpful
No, this would be AR
Do not quit. At the end of the day, the assigned attorney and upper management should have flagged that the SOL was approaching.
I agree with this. You are not solely responsible for this.
TD = turned down
When did you send a decline letter?
You need to breathe and let your boss make the call. Did you verbally inform the client that you were turning the case down and referring it out? Did the client make any effort to check the status of the case or get in touch with the attorneys prior to the SOL expiration?
Continued: I feel like I should resign. Thoughts?
It's 7k that isn't that bad. Breathe the firm will eat it honest mistake. But next time check and get the fee split agreement.
What does TD mean? Did the client sign a contract with the firm? Had you already informed him that you wouldn't be handling the case?
We did work up the case partially and they signed a retainer. We referred it out in 7/6/21. But doing further research the sync failed. So it looks like they never received it.
I’m disgustingly sick. I’ve been a great employee up until this point. I do not want to do anything that tarnishes the firms reputation which is why I feel like resigning is the best option.
My boss lands at 4 today, and I’m going to call him and explain the situation and offer my resignation.
We are all human. We make mistakes. This is why there is malpractice insurance. Do not beat yourself up over this. Do not quit over this.
If you turned down the case, I'm assuming that means the attorney never signed an engagement form. So long as yall made it clear no attorney-client relationship existed with your firm, you should be fine.
Also, how do you know the other firm didn't receive your referral? They may have turned it down just like yall did.
Thank you all. I’ve spoken to the attorney. However he isn’t the decision maker. He spoke to the owner of the firm and the owner isn’t happy and hinted around at being let go.
That being said—has anyone heard of jobs? Remote preferred. But also understand the velocity of my mistake.
Did you send the reject letters before statute expired? If the “client” did not open or respond that is on them not you. Other lawyers are right. There is insurance to cover this. Plus even if a claim is brought in malpractice the plaintiff would have to prove the underlying claim had merit. It does not sound like a great case to begin with. If the injury case would not survive summary judgment then where are the damages?
Could be. Sounds like a small case. Called herself a great employee to this point. Good paras are hard to find. Call the carrier and let them deal with it. If case as bad as said the malpractice case may go nowhere. Not an ideal situation obviously but mistakes happen.
