How is that flex travel? That’s your regular travel with an additional leg added.
Wait so you live near LA, client site is NY, and your interview site is DC. Why don’t you just pay on your own NY to DC, then flex travel DC to LA? Unless you get can some weird 16 hour layover (thurs afternoon to fri night) that EY1 is suggesting

I live in LA...interview is in NYC on a Friday. I want to spend the weekend in DC and then come back to LA. I am more than happy to pay the leg between NYC and DC
I did it! I was just upfront about it , in my case I had a pre planned vacation , so I asked them and they said sure
Pay OOP for the difference and get approval for it up front.
Take the train from NY to DC, it’ll be under $100.
