So I moved in IA in a bank about a year ago. Yes I am enjoying the lack of stress and good wlb, but I feel I am not growing/learning at pace I would like to have a strong career. IA maybe a short term 2 year gig. Any recommendation for what to do after that? Heard people go to risk? Pls I don’t need comments that I am doomed after being in IA. I am in a good bank / team but doesn’t feel its for me.

If you are in a bank, IA is 3rd line of risk, you can look into 2nd line / 2.5 line of risk.

like

Hey, if you don’t mind, may I ask what you moved to IA from? I’m in external audit and looking to make the same move to IA in a big bank in the UK. I’m mainly looking for a good WLB tbh.

like

I moved from external audit as well with hope of wlb, which to be fair i got it. But the team i am in is pretty new which may be reason why i feel things are slow. It has offered me better pay and wlb than external audit so I am never turning back to external audit for sure now. My friends there are still suffering

like

Well, that’s great to hear in a way! I think I might be in a similar situation as I think the bank is expanding their IA team and getting quite a few new hires. Appreciate you taking your time to reply 👏🏻

Considering switching careers:

I got hired straight out from college 5 years ago from a small CPA firm and have worked in Tax ever since. Lately, I feel like this is not what I'm actually into. What else I can do with my Accounting degree?

My passion is Real Estate and Interior Design, love Managerial Accounting, I can sit for hours analyzing data, I also have a degree in Supply Chain Management.

My passion cannot feed my family but I've been burned out so much after years in Tax. 😞

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?

When would be the right time for me to get an MBA given my background?

I was a teacher for 4 years and transitioned into the corporate world. I have 6 months experience in marketing and that’s what I currently do, but plan for a lateral move in the future. I’ve seen suggestions of 3-7 years experience - does my teaching experience factor in? Or should I consider the 3-7 years only of my corporate time? Or is an MBA sooner a good move because of my big career transition (and future lateral)?

I have a 20+ year career doing AdTech/BI/Analytics in media agencies. Started as an intern, rose up to director and board member at various agencies.

I switched to tech consulting at SM level early this year for the money but also to see new industries & learn something new. Had to quit the small firm I joined after only 5 months due to chaotic and overbearing leadership. Now I have an offer from Avanade and one from a big media agency on the table.

Should I go back or stay in consulting?

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. Spoke to a lot of others who have left and seems like being pigeonholed or staffed on projects not related to the actual core work of the practice is the common reason. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...
