Different firms are different.
And even within different firms every team is different
I work at a v70 and can count on one hand how many thank yous I have received.
My experience is the opposite! I used to get thank you emails all the time from a top firm, but nothing at a boutique or lower-ranked big law…
lol okay. Thanks - everyone I worked with across different groups at my old firm never forgot to send these but I guess my old firm was the outlier. Even when I had a non-lawyer job, someone would say something if team had to do overnight/weekend works - so I was genuinely curious as to whether this was customary. I guess I just have to learn to not expect these.
Reading this thread, I am thankful to be at the near-market paying v100 firm where I am. I get thank you emails from the partners every time I stay up late to get out a draft, get on a weekend call, etc. Y’all people getting burned out at the v10s should stop being so focused on prestige and making top dollar and start looking for a firm where you’ll be happy and enjoy the work.
Did you lateral from outside of New York? NYC could be the reason why people are less appreciative/more toxic.
A partner called to thank me this week. First time in my career that has happened.
Nothing to do with vault ranking. Depends on the team vibe/culture. Worked with NYC partners before and except one sweet partner, nobody thanked for routine stuff. But now work primarily with the west coast team and I get more thank yous.
