How many years has it been since the conviction? I had a felony charge from when I was 19. 5 years later and I was able to get it expunged.
Cost me about $500 for the lawyer to submit the paperwork
Yea the felony in the United States cannot be expunged like that. Either the lawyer took your money and ripped you off or you are lying. My brother has a felony from when he was 17. He was cut off from the family and was convicted of a 3rd degree felony. 16 years later our uncle who is a criminal lawyer at Robert Shapiros law firm in Dallas has exhausted all means to get it “expunged”. Won’t happen unless governor/presidential pardon or new circumstances showing he’s innocent.
You’re in sales. If no one besides your current employer buys-into your past, sell them on being a part of your future. It’s completely unfair up that some trauma stories will get your foot in the door, others will create barriers from judgement and stigma. Usually up to the recruiter / hiring Mgr you’re talking to, which is why the process drips with bias. I’d say focus your target demographic on a revenue-generating role within an industry that’s more accepting of your background: i.e veteran support groups, non-profit fundraising positions, substance abuse or mental health treatment centers, mentor groups, etc. These companies all still need sales!
So, how do they know you have a criminal background is my question. I cannot recall the last time I filled out an application that had a "have you been convicted of" box on it. And, I have never been asked once in an interview process whether or not I had a criminal record. So, legally, the only way they could know you had a criminal history prior to receiving an offer and signing off on background check for HR process, is if you divulged such during the interview process.
It’s also public record

Put a spreadsheet together of every Account Executive you know who does what you want to do. Ask them to connect you (via LinkedIn Messenger, email, text) to all the headhunters who are hitting them up with new job opportunities. The reason is that the large majority of people who headhunters target are not looking for a job. If they do communicate with the headhunter and tell her/him they're not looking, the next question the headhunter asks is "do you know anybody good?". You want to be that guy.
