On a positive stereotype - I explained to my Gen Z daughter what I do and she said " so your job is basically just telling people to be nice to one another" 😅

My conservative uncle is positive that my job is to find all the flaws of the white people who work at the company I work for, and replace them with minorities and women. I don't know how to explain to him that that isn't my job in a way he'll listen to.

General question: Is there any room in corporate America for real, actionable DE&I discussions and initiatives? I've observed so many corporate versions become an advertising strategy (SM posts, diversity reports) without doing the actual work (increasing representation in senior leadership, salary analyses, having an effective reporting system for bias). Is this just how it is?

It's funny how our entertainment industry never misses the chance to report each year how diversity in Hollywood is still wanting and then do absolutely nothing about it. Yes queen, give us nothing, lol.

Really looking for a way to turn around a toxic building culture with staff to staff bullying, cliques/social isolation, hard feelings on big topics (racism, non acceptance of gender identity). Last year the staff polarized with the lead bully whom I helped leave. And the lead gossip (who was my secretary) that gained their sympathy and turned them against me. She also left. Now I need to regain trust and eliminate unacceptable teacher behaviors. Open to any and all advice.

You CAN be that leader that people want to work with. 1st, self assessment is required. Be honest: As a leader,have you engaged in/accepted Attribution Bias with a dash of gender &/or race bias? (See the pic) This is something we all need to be aware of as we lead our teams, provide performance feedback, & model the behaviors we'd like to see more of on our teams. Be on the lookout for Attribution Bias in yourself & on your team. It's a hindrance to creating a high-performing, inclusive culture.

Hi, we just launched Diversity and inclusion committee at our work place and one of our many initiatives is to share some reminders /notifications about safety and inclusion in common employee platforms/portals e.g There’s no place or time when discrimination is acceptable. Please feel free to report to HR if you com across any discriminatory behavior. Anyone has any more similar ideas what other topics we can add?

I have a boss that pushes their bad taste on everyone including the client. When something doesn’t work from everyone’s POV including client’s, they are able to talk the client into liking it. It’s an endless cycle. Client-“It’s not working” boss-“remember why you liked it, xyz” client-“ok?” Client-“it’s still not working.” At a certain point everyone just agrees with them because they won’t stop. Whose responsibility is it to have the disciplinary discussion with an employee who is accused of sexual harassment? I provided guidance to the employee's supervisor, all to end up being questioned by management who suggested it was HR's responsibility to have the conversation. My involvement, I stated, included educating on company policy, investigation of incident, guidance and proper documentation, but I keep being challenged and corrected.. help!

I am being tapped to translate documents at work. I’ve done spot translation audits, and 1 larger Quality assurance document earlier this year, but was recently contacted about a potential large-scale translation initiative for next year.

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. So far any real initiatives get shot down in favor of performative actions to post on SM. Is this just how it is, or can we try something different?

I’m interviewing for a newly created position, Assistant Director of Communications & Outreach in my organization’s DEI office. This is the first interview they have requested after reviewing my writing sample. They didn’t say who specifically I would be interviewing with, but said “members of the DEI staff”, and it will be virtual.
