In my experience, it's because there's just way less need for cash and checks, and what need there is can mostly be filled by ATMs and mobile deposit. The main reason people nowadays actually need to come into the bank is to do things they can't do online or to have a problem fixed.
Well, that is something I'm interested in. I'm good at problem solving. And I really do appreciate having a personal banker, which is why I would like to be one. Teller processing is not a good position. It's he'll on earth.

The traditional teller roles and duties are being replaced by machines. A lot can be done online as customers’ transactions are becoming more digital and less by cash. I would encourage you to learn new skills if you can. People and banks still need personal bankers to solve problems, but routine transactions is cheaper to have machines than people to handle. Also, customers prefer to be able to move money with their phone than wait in line for a person.
Usually due to offer more $ for those employees to be cross trained. We have plenty that can do new accounts and work as a teller. It works great for those days someone has called in. plus a more knowledgeable staff in general.
I agree. The expectation of cross selling responsiblities from a teller has been going on for years and I think is ridiculous. Opens to many processing mistakes and unhappy people that have to wait longer in line. And that is just 2 of many cons.
It’s all to boost sales. Plain and simple
