We honestly don't do enough cross training, and it creates problems at times. I was talking to someone who said at their old job they did a lot of cross training and it meant things could just run along no matter what happened. My guess is that our managers don't think it's worth the effort, for whatever reason.

That honestly makes a huge difference. Cross-training really keeps things running smoothly and takes a lot of pressure off when someone’s away or things get busy. It’s one of those things that feels like extra effort upfront but saves so much stress later. Hopefully management sees the value in it over time 🤞
I will volunteer to go to other departments and learn. More for selfish reasons, I like being able to jump around in the day and not get stuck doing only one type of job all day everyday.
It helps you to be able to do that. You can fill in when somebody doesn’t show up, and it’s just nice to have the change of pace.
I am cross-trained in every department, but my pay doesn't reflect this in the slightest.... I am the only one employed at my company that can do this. It has been a bit of a nightmare if I'm honest!!

Wow, that’s impressive! Being cross-trained in every department is no small feat. I can see why it’d feel like a lot when your pay doesn’t match that skill set, sounds like you’re handling a huge responsibility!
