Some patient interactions stick with me longer than I expect. It’s part of the job, but it’s heavy. How do you process the emotional side of our work?

I focus extra hard on the good things I have in my own life. My kids, dogs, family, friends. Just hugging my girls or throwing the tennis ball for the pups helps me wash away some of that emotional baggage.

Absolutely! Coming home and getting to spend quality time with my daughter after a rough shift always lifts some of that weight off my shoulders.

Honestly, I have a therapist for that reason. We deal with a lot of tough stuff, and it can be really hard to process the emotions. My therapist always helps me work through them and stay mentally healthy.

Therapy sounds like a really great course of action. It’d be a good way to learn about healthy ways to process those heavier days.

It is tough sometimes and I feel like how I like to process is just by talking it out even if it’s with another coworker or to myself

Talking it out with someone does sound beneficial. Especially if it’s someone who really understands that side of the job.

Im a RN and took on a new role working in Home Health. I chose this position because My husband & I recently moved to PA with our 2 kids (1&3), with no family available for his residency program with a hospital. If you know that life, I’m pretty much the main parent for our kids. I don’t want to work in the hospital/floor work anymore; nor do I believe the hrs are flexible enough. I need a job that’s flexible for the kids but pays >$44/hr. Maybe remote or hybrid? Please help w/ suggestions.

Hi all! I recently accepted a remote/hybrid RN position to try something new. Majority of my experience is at bedside. The pay is less than bedside (as a traveler), but more than a staff nurse. Are there any RN’s that left bedside for a remote position that can give advice on the work/life balance? What pros and cons do you encounter?

Hello there! I currently work in billing at a medical office. I got my Bachelors in Psychology a few years ago but I couldn’t find a position that seemed like a good option for me that was well paying and fulfilling. I tried working as a tech at an Applied Behavior Analysis clinic but it wasn’t a good fit. I’m hesitant to try case management or social work because I worry I won’t like it but I want to use my degree in Psychology. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

I just accepted an offer in writing. The new job will start the background check next which I’ve been told it may take a while to complete. My start date at the new job isn’t until 2023 so there is some time for me to turn in my notice. I don’t anticipate any hiccups in the background check but is it wise to wait until the background check is complete before turning in my notice?

So I say this with complete humility and an understanding that this is a fortunate-ish situation to be in. I’m in a position where I am tied to nothing, I have no children, spouse, or house. My job, which I’ve loved until some recent significant leadership changes, is sucking the life out of me and I think it may be time for a change. Because I am able to “pick up and go” I’m open to opportunities and locations. I’ve never worked with a recruiter but was hoping I could get some recommendations!
