Ah this is peak army bullshit. “Were having retention and recruiting problems” case and point
“Hey top it’s cold as fuck today, can I wear my fleece that you issued me so I can be temperature moderate”
“Absolutely the fuck not”
“Rgr, I’ll go fuck myself”
Never understood why the Army seemed to enjoy making their people miserable. A joint tour was eye opening, “wow, you guys treat your people like shit,” was my Army takeaway from CENTCOM.
That’s exactly how I felt with my J-5 mobilization there.
It was literally like watching children’s soccer but with adults in uniform. So so bad…everyone going on about their lanes of responsibility and personalities more than analysis in decision making.
I would have hated being in the army after I saw all that crap…
It’s about equivalent to putting your hands in your pocket 😂. What are the purposes of these pockets then haha
Ah the old fleece debate. A tale as old as time.
I often think about joining the Air Force as an officer now that I have left the army and done college. Exactly because of that.
Same with the Corps. Lol.
As a current National Guard Company Commander, I wonder how people like this have the mental bandwidth to think of shit like that, especially given all the other requirements.
You don’t want to get your fleece wet while in the cold.
That’s why the fleece was designed as part of the cold weather layering system outside the windbreaker, soft shell, and hard shell jackets.
The memo says it’s not authorized as an outer garment, but it didn’t say you couldn’t wear it inside of another garment. So just wear it on the inside.
SMA has concurred that it can be worn as an outer garment. Case closed.
However, you are correct that this memo doesn’t say it can’t be worn. The commander just doesn’t want it to be worn as an outer garment, which, to me, is just unnecessary bs.

So much wrong with the services comes down to too much power over extraneous shit delegated too far down.
Command authority doesn’t need to include uniforms, and policy can be written globally to give everyone the flexibility to wear sensible gear.
All delegating it does is create problems.
Most people don’t wear their cold weather gear properly to begin with and jump straight to that waffle top fleece. We were banned from wearing cold weather gear on an air assault for good reason, half the people who wore them during rehearsals were heat casualties. This was in the winter, in snow, on a mountaintop in Washington State. Maybe it’s that type of situation. Either way the army is softer than baby shit now.
And those dang kids on the lawn too!!!
