Staffed alone in an advisory deal (literally final presentation en a week) and 4 MDs are leading. They all have different views and priorities and I’m lost on who to follow. Mid year reviews coming in march and the staffer (who gives the review) is one of this MDs. He’s not the one that has been most present but his ego is too high so I feel like I should do whatever he says? Tho theres 2 other MDs that have been more present in this project. Any recommendations?

Follow the one that controls your destiny. If it’s the staffer MD, go with them because they have more control.

That being said if there’s a hierarchy within the 4, go with the most senior and impress. That way when it comes time, that MD’s weight means more in a room compared to the other 3, even if one is the staffer.

I hope to break into banking next summer, and I’m interested in the Natural Resources, Industrials, and Real Estate industry groups. Any advice on what to do? Thanks!

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?

Got laid off in tech corp dev making 250-300 all in. Have an offer to join a fairly new family office investment team in PE buyouts but will be a fairly significant cash pay cut vs what I was making in tech corp dev.
