Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Why did you get laid off if you don’t mind me asking?
did the startup fold? liquidity event? seems like an odd team to remove.

Come back to banking if you don’t mind the lifestyle - first year Associates are making $350K cash with 2 YOE
250-300 is solid comp btw
I’d take family office offer personally, feel like you can always go back to corp dev. Only challenge at the moment is current job market
Out of curiosity what experience did you have before Corp Dev / what level did you join? Looking to move to corp dev trying to level set expectations for comp / use you as a benchmark lol

I think depends on your long term career goal. If you’re optimizing for cash flow almost nothing beat banking but the lifestyle sucks. My guess is Associate 2/3 as VP is usually promoted from Associate.
If you see yourself being a VP Corp Dev in 5-10 years then it doesn’t make sense to go back to banking - I’m sure many spots are still hiring CD Director.
For the family office role - my rule of thumb is never take a role that pays less than your last role - so I wouldn’t consider.
