If it’s 50k flat in NYC, don’t negotiate. By law that should qualify you for OT pay. Which as a junior, will be much more valuable than the flat 5k bump
That’s true^ you end up making way more
Don’t get greedy. Just starting out school is best for you to look at which agency is going to take you to the next level - look for people who you can look up to and learn from. You have the rest of your life to make some cash. Look for the talent in your employer, not how deep their pockets are.
50k straight out school in ny isn’t bad. I’ve seen people survive on less
these are all amazing advice thank you everyone!!
Agree with DD1. Learn as much as you can, thank your lucky stars you got a legit job right out of college, and congratulations! $50K is more than generous for first hire.
they’re a mid size agency in nyc and offering 50k
You’re just starting, what’s your leverage?
Unless youve got awards or another offer, I dont think you have leverage
i actually have a couple of awards and other job offers (smaller agencies tho)! how should I go about using those as leverage to negotiate?
And don’t forget not everything is salary. Overtime rate can be negotiated. Paid time off is usually more flexible. Work from home time. All on the table
Just be happy you got an offer. Build rep
