I feel like we are this weird quirky kid who’s well respected but doesn’t belong to any tiers... am I the only one feeling this way?
So true! And I was at OW before! So I feel like I have inside info LOL. I like that AP is very low profile though.
Salary lower at OW after first 2 years
AP pay is def better than OW (having worked at both though as a partner it’s prob all the same and I will never get there anyway). However, I feel that OW culture is better - AP culture is good (nice, smart, generally friendly and “normal” people) - but OW is better. It is younger, way more diverse, cosmopolitan, and more progressive than AP (still room for improvement but way ahead of AP) and generally more social. AP is 80% male, and 90% white and 60% over 50 (not official numbers but prob not far off but that’s what it feels like anyway) - needless to say it is more stodgy and stiff as a result which can be a challenge, more so as a multiple minority (LGBT+, foreign, brown). AP also doesn’t require one to live in any particular city but on the flip side there isn’t much office culture even in cities with offices - I miss the office culture even though I do like the flexibility of not being expected to be in the office on Fridays or when not staffed. Just have to figure out what is more important to you.
What’s your thought on WLB compared to OW? I came from a different tier 2 firm and the biggest advantage for Alix is the better pay and WLB, less focus on bs, optics and more impact on getting results for our clients. I fully agree on your diversity comment , but culture depends on industry team - for example retail and RHL have really strong cultures. Others like O&G are all about doing your work and going home.
Also AP benefits are great (no insurance premiums for employees, and very low premiums for partners and families) with the notable exception that we don’t have a 401k match which I hate. OW has a 401k match and a pension (!!!) because it’s owned by Marsh&McLennan Companies (assuming the pension still exists) which is kind of cool. Other benefits are all probably similar.
Thanks for your response. Insignificant in the larger scene of things but what's the policy on economy/biz class? Duration/client?
Looking to get an idea on comp for AP @ VP level. I have made it through most of the gauntlet, psych test, logic, iq, etc heading to the home stretch of the case study. Have every indication that I killed it and with success of case expecting offer.
Very generally speaking total VP comp can range from $170-270k. What are you at Ankura? What did you communicate to HR as your expected comp? They should come back in that range.
