I’m happy here, but I have also spent time at Deloitte. So given that comparison not sure how much value that carries.
I’ve really enjoyed my time so far overall! My people team has been amazing, and everyone on the projects I’ve been on has been really appreciative and good about recognizing my hard work. I honestly haven’t endured crazy/bad hours either, so I guess I am one of the few that is quiet about it (on Fishbowl at least)
The jaded ones are the vocal ones. I enjoy it and it pays a lot
Personally I've had a good experience, but this is an industry where there's a lot of variance based on who you work for so YMMV
Pros:
-Interesting strategy and next phase work for high profile brands
-Partners who have cared about my development and preferences, even if I'm helping them less
-Culture that allows juniors to bite off as much as they can chew (i.e. you can drive workstreams pretty early if you prove you're competent)
-Leadership is transparent if you ask about the business and what does or doesn't work
-Project leaders okay with you disagreeing with them as a junior
-Good access to exit ops. I'm leaving for a dream role soon that a number of my MBB friends were unable to get interviews with (not saying S& brand is as strong or stronger for exits, but that it is sufficient enough such that your micro factors can be more influential vs macro brand recognition of the firm)
-Solid comp
Cons
-Strategy consulting hours and project pacing with mentally exhausting fire drills
-As a B4, there's little annoying compliance type stuff
-We aren't structured as a true generalist model, which while I've seen that matter less than I thought it would for exit ops it certainly can affect your ability to experience many types of work
Overworked I think so at times but it varies. Also the nights I spend working late I am learning constantly. Yes it is a lot sometimes but at least it’s not like I’m up with something tedious. Also, we get paid a lot of money and people are very smart here
Just want some more moneys
I am happy, and pretty sure there a bunch of happy employees in the firm as well….
Generally somewhat satisfied, but had a handful of bad work experiences so far. Not a secret that many are considering other paths at .
Thanks all for the responses! I think my suspicion was right about the unhappy folks being the most focal. There are going to be less enjoyable periods of time/projects but that’s at any firm.
I really enjoy the work and people in Deals Strategy.
If I ignore career trajectory I’d be happy to stay long term. Unfortunately we have a huge partner promotion problem, which has caused a huge exodus over the last few years.
