That’s how they push back when they don’t feel the same way. Sending a clear e-mail post meetings helped me out a ton.
Are they even interested in advertising? Read the books, look at the award annuals, know the history? If not, it’s just a paycheck to them, not a passion. Which is fine, but also something you need to know to assign them appropriate projects.

Specificity. Pick out one example. Show it to them. Then if another thing like it happens again. You can say, why did this happen? Either they honestly missed it, which you can work on. Or they ignored it, which is another path…

Sounds like this is painfully ongoing regardless of what you do…
There are plenty of mid and senior writers out there with the sense enough to follow direction and looking for work. Bring them in as freelancers, see how they do, then start replacing the staff that needs to be replaced

These types of decisions are usually above an ACDs pay grade.
Are they bad at creative writing (ie: their writing makes sense and flows but lacks personality) or are they overall writing gibberish?
If the former, do you have tone of voice docs and brand examples to reference?
If the latter, I’ve found that creating a sort of formulaic cheat sheet (ie: 1st sentence sets up problem, 2nd sentence sets up insight, 3rd sentence provides brand solution/rtb)
Facing the same dilemma. I recently went in-house, so we have no direct reports except to our CEO. I see gross negligence with typos and sentences ending in prepositional phrases. I point them out and try to be friendly about it. They say thanks and make a couple changes, maybe, but then don’t look at the rest of the content to catch additional errors. I guess it’s no skin off my nose if they put their name to an article that is sloppily written. But, doesn’t that reflect on the company that is trying to sell a professional service?
