Stuck between two ID firms (☹️). Firm one is ID firm that requires four days a week in office and pays 130 BUT have select commercial matters and they said I would help out on the commercial side too. Firm two is pure ID but would pay 140 and it’s only two days a week in office. I’m planning on getting my MBA in a year and a half. I want to take firm two bc don’t have to go in that office as much and I can spend more time with my elderly dog at home, but I am worried that

Take the 130 and get the commercial experience. That 10k is an investment in your future.

110%. This is your out. That 10k now will be worth a lot more in a few years

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but how positive are you that you'll actually get commercial work, too? I have twice accepted positions based on being pitched that I would get training in a way that would be beneficial to my career overall and future earnings and I never received any such training.

like

If I say no to firm one I’ll be losing out on commercial experience that I might be able to put on my resume to escape ID down the line. Though even at that firm commercial would be the minority as the role is primarily for the ID side. Not sure what to do

like

Tough call, but I would go with Firm #1 for the commercial experience. It’s easy to get pigeonholed in ID if you stay in it too long.

Just an FYI that, depending on which firm you end up at, ID isn't as bad as the rep it gets on this board. Obviously, your goals and professional aspirations may vary, but assuming you're in this career for the $ and lifestyle balance, and also assuming you don't have the pedigree for a V20 firm to begin with, it's really not a bad option.

I was at an ID firm and managed to convince the partner I exclusively worked with to let me help another partner on a smaller commercial matter. I then put commercial litigation on my resume, and leveraged that (among other things) to leave ID and move to commercial litigation. I didn’t like the ID business model and much prefer the complexity of commercial litigation, so it was important for me. No shade on people who succeed in ID, though.

Hi Fishes,
I've been offered for Engineering expert position at Novartis India. I've received offer letter 2 weeks back and my DOJ is updated to Mid December. I told the HR that my current company's last working day is on mid January and resend the offer letter with mid Jan as my DOJ. But they told that they can send the revised offer letter 3 weeks before the joining date.
Is this normal process? Has anyone gone through similar experience?

My work has been 90% Excel based 10% Access/SQL based and friends at other firms seem to be using way more advanced programs.
