The veneer of prestige in practicing law (particularly at law firms) is the biggest hoax in the professional world, full stop.

Have you ever met a surgeon?

Let me re-phrase, have you ever met a surgeon who didn’t think they were the second coming of Christ himself?

likefunny

Yes definitely met heart surgeon. Super normal, low-key person.

Totally. Especially in the big law firms.

I mean, yes and no. I think many of us live in a demographic bubble of well-educated professionals, so it's kind of like no big deal. But you've got to remember there aren't even 1.4M lawyers in the US, so that's less than half a percent of the total population (I get that includes minors and retirees).

But I think the world is undergoing a seismic change and the old systems are being replaced. You have an entire generation of folks who are making careers out of Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, blogs, podcasts and Crypto, so who even needs a college degree anymore, much less any kind of a professional career?

I don’t think the sentiment expressed in the OP is rooted in social media fame.

Okay, sure? I don’t really care about being a lawyer lol it’s a job that beats phone sales for me and allows me to obtain money and live my life.

It may be all smoke and mirrors but I am here for it 🤣.

Is it really?

Esp at biglaw lol… most skills obtained are so useless anywhere else other than biglaw and they might even be negatively impact ones health, life, social interactions etc. I think people should be proud of what they do but like the extent of some attorneys is like wow are you serious???

Hi everyone, I had a major surgery and am looking to find a remote position involving anything that isn’t 100% commission based or cold calling/agent positions. Looking to make $25-35 an hour, and have had long term positions such as Clinical Secretary & Receptionist/Administrator, Accounts Payable Clerk, Team Lead, and Sales Associate. I’m willing to try new things and am a very quick learner, and can handle multitasking and high pace. Does anyone know of any good work from home positions?

Hi Fellow Fishies,

I am reaching out because I was recently contacted to interview for Cigna Provider Engagement Development Program. I wanted to see if I could connect with anyone on here that I can help give a breakdown of what this program entails, day-to-day, and WLB. Any tips on the interview and interview process for anyone working in this position? I would be truly grateful for any help or information that can be provided!

I was just informed after the third round of interviews they’d like at least 5 references, two must be supervisors. My last job was a temporary remote job where I didn’t really interact with my supervisor and the jobs before that were at my family’s business (I do not speak to any of them for serious personal reasons.) Anything before that was grad school and I haven’t kept in contact with any professors from over five years ago. What should I do? 😕

Does anyone enjoy lender work? If so, what about it did you find appealing? I’ve somehow been saddled with all the lender work at my firm (despite never having expressed an interest in it and having no experience with it) and it’s miserable. Having said that, our other practice areas are slowing down significantly and I don’t know if I want to rock the boat. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.
