So, I started working full-time at a retail store for clothing and accessories and after a brief dispute with my supervisor (my bike broke down which made me come in 20 minutes late to y shift) they told me that it seems like working is not my priority, so to make it easier on me I would only get 20 hours a week. Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.

I'm currently recruiting for 2 in-house opportunities with a mission-driven FinTech startup based in Los Angeles. Both roles are remote, but the company is prioritizing CA based candidates. As such, you must be CA barred/or able to become RHIC.

The first role is for a Sr. Lending Counsel. The client is looking for someone with a strong financial services background to provide business and strategic counsel to internal business partners in support of (cont. below)

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

I’m in discussions to become the GC of a mid size but international company that does ~$1 billion in annual revenue. Smallish legal department. They’ve asked for my comp expectations. I don’t have specific expectations but I want to be compensated at least market for a NYC based GC (which looks like cash comp of at least $300k plus bonus, etc). Any suggestions on how people would respond?

Need a recommendation for a contract analytics service provider. Don’t need the lifecycle or repository bells and whistles, just need something I can feed 10k documents and it provides me with data points, preferably individually and in aggregate. Does something like this exist??

Day of remote interviews at a tech co for in-house. 5 YOE. Planning on wearing a suit. Tie or no tie?

What would be a typical salary for a junior in house counsel role (3 yoe) at a publicly traded company in a secondary market (think Austin, Tampa, Charlotte)? I’m having a really hard time finding what a reasonable range would be. Most positions I’m applying to require desired salary in the application, and the truth is I’d accept anything north of 125k but don’t want to undersell myself and take a bigger cut than necessary coming from biglaw.

What’s it like being a senior in-house corporate attorney in biotech or tech? Is the work interesting or is it mainly just reviewing contracts and admin/CYA work for biz folks?
