There is so much talk about AI in engineering right now, but my actual day today was fixing something basic that no tool could have predicted. I feel like the headlines say one thing and the reality of the job is something else entirely. Is AI actually changing your day to day work yet or is it still mostly hype where you are?

We host our own AI system and it really hasn't come into play beyond a glorified Google assistant.

I did try using it to generate FMEA documents from a legacy program that has well documented processes, and it saves me significant amount of time starting the document but it still requires going through it with a fine tooth comb to verify. And that only works as well as it does because the process is so robust and well established, to the point that an FMEA isn't the highest priority but I think it will be helpful for new hires as older engineers retire.

I wouldn't trust AI to not hallucinate with technical designs or documents. And with how novel solutions can be there's little room for it's "creativity" since it's mostly just spitting out the most likely answers, which are often the first ones engineers try.

I agree with that. I have found it useful for starting work, but I would never rely on it without checking. The risk in technical work is too high.

It's somewhere in between. Is it going to be able to replace me any time soon? No. Is it helping us work more efficiently and streamlining a ton of menial tasks? Definitely.

I see it the same way. It is not replacing roles, but it is quietly improving efficiency in the background.

You just might not know how AI can help you fix it. And if it can’t yet, it will be able to soon.

I get that perspective, but I think there are still limits. Not everything can be solved with AI yet, especially practical or unpredictable issues.

Earlier, I used to create presentations; now I create HTML pages and present them with all the animations of a browser. After creating the page, I also asked it to create a script for me to present. AI is an unlimited source of information. It is up to you how you want to include it in workflows. Funny thing, if you dont know how to include in workflow, ask AI, and it will tell you 😄

I like that approach. I think the value comes from how intentionally you use it, not just using it for everything.

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

Hey AIR team,
How do you confirm a company that approaches you from Europe is legitimate? I have a media company from Turkey asking me to quote some animation for them. They have a website, have given their address (which is an actual address on google maps), and have given phone numbers which I haven't tried yet. I have let them know that if we work together, I'd require 50% up front, 35% midway and 15% before delivery of final elements and they say they're fine with that. Anything else?

Hi, I was curious if anyone had any jobs or companies that had a position with a mix of consulting/healthcare/pharmaceutical. I currently work in clinical operations and research, and would love to jump or learn into a tech side company with pharmaceutical exposure. Not sure if these are out there but figured I’d see!

Hi Everyone, I am trying to apply for a Technical Support role at Dropbox I’m entering all the required fields but there seems to be an issue, when I hit submit after filling the form, it doesn’t submit and throws error ‘Looks like you left this blank! Please fill out this required field’ when all the fields are entered already (I have checked so many times, and filled the form from scratch several times too). Anyone from Dropbox who can put me in touch with HR or suggest what I should do next?
