Think it would be a compliance issue to purchase my own island say in Maine or Washington and secede from the US? I could generate my own electricity use Starlink for internet and with a small population I’m sure we could get by on foreign aid. Basically the US version of Sealand but a little nicer on the eyes.

Why are you working if you can buy your own island?

I don’t think the US will allow any part of their territory to cede and create a wedge from which our enemies can wage war
We have enough trouble given proximity of Cuba already.
Separately, how do you think this said island will be supplied? Self sufficiency is a myth in a global economy.

If one has TONS of money like closer to hundreds of billions, one possible option is to consider a floating set of interlinked islands like a super oil rig kind of structure and maybe have the Cook Islands adopt this island (along with tax revenue that will come from this island) and put this under protection of NZ and ultimately AUS military against piracy and other country based interference:

My wife and I are moving to Boston from overseas (we’re from Italy and we’ve recently won the diversity visa green card lottery).

We are looking to rent a 1BR starting in January, ideally for ~$3k/month. I’ll be working in the downtown area.

Do you recommend we go for a serviced/luxury apartment (e.g. Montaje, 345 Harrison, etc.) or hire a broker to get a “normal” apartment?

Any managed buildings recommendations within our budget? Also, what are some good brokers we could work with?

Thanks!

Hey fishies! I’m looking to take a leap into the remote world. I am a Sr. Graphic designer and art director in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦. I’m looking to take on more of an art director and creative director role, remotely. I can attach my website and a portfolio if anyone can help out. I have been designing professionally now for just over 15 years now. I work very quickly and very well with other team members. I also take on freelance work. I’m married with 2 kids so the more work the better.

🐠, I was laid off from industry during covid and started consulting this year, which was a step back in terms of level and salary. I have received an offer that would allow me to course-correct and advance past where I was before. I like my current firm and have put a lot of effort into making it my new home; however I don’t like my project and am stuck on it. I am terrified of making a move so soon into a role that isn’t a fit or worse, results in another layoff. Appreciate all perspective!

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
