I exited in a role that had a variety of projects to spread the wings with. I needed time to really think through what I wanted to focus on, and while in consulting it wasn’t clear. 2 years in industry has given me sufficient time to think through, and now I’m aiming to focus on roles that leverage the best of my skillset.

Yeah, I’d recommend it. It brings a lot of sanity if you’re trying to figure out the long term career path, especially if your skill set/experience is so vast. Mine was too - data, statistical modeling, analytics, solution design, risk management. All of these are individual roles/areas in the industry, and I didn’t want to pigenhole myself into one area so needed a little more time to figure out the best path forward.

Are you looking for an industry role or to stay in consulting?
Industry - I think I have a lot of valuable skills, but I think it’d take a significant amount of effort to go for a hands-on-keyboard role. With two young kids, it might take a while to brush those skills off.
