This beautiful lab mix followed us home yesterday morning. She is very docile and kind, however we just adopted a 2nd dog a week ago and cannot keep or foster her long. Our two original dogs are still learning to get along and this new dog is creating extra stress for them. Is anyone willing to adopt / foster this girl? We have been calling rescues but they are either full or foster based and would hate to have BARC take her as it is a kill animal shelter.

Happy update! We took her to the vet and got her up to date on all vax’s and got her on flea and heart-worm protection. We found her a home with my neighbor’s extended family. She will be enjoying time with an older Labrador.

Thank you for taking her in, she looks like a sweet girl. As someone that fosters dogs with a rescue, the situation is absolutely dire right now - we have more dogs than ever and all our foster homes are well above typical capacity. There are a few groups out there that coordinate transferring dogs to other states that don’t have the severe stray problem we have in Houston (I believe BARC participates in the transfer program as well), I’ll see if I can find any contacts to send along.

BARC does it’s best, and has gotten a lot better over the years. It’s live release rate varies greatly (it only dropped below 80% in April for the first time in around 8 years) depending on intake and capacity but as the city shelter it has to take all animals from Houston, unlike other shelters that can be more selective.
