Learn. Document what you learned and which assumptions proved incorrect. Realize that this happens to EVERY successful marketer. It’s part of the process.
Google even has annual “Fail Awards” that celebrate risks taken that flopped.
I also take comfort in knowing that in this space no one dies on the operating table when failure occurs
Take the word fail out of your vocabulary, until you can become more comfortable with it.
Too often, we buy into the toxic 'Failure is not an option' without recognizing that failure is a massive part of growth and learning. You feel exposed, but try to remember that people who have never failed have never really challenged themselves.
Don’t take it too hard. When fish find themselves out of water they flop until they eventually find water. You’ll find the water, just keep learning and growing. A flop from a performance perspective isn’t necessarily a flop for your career. Think of it as an opportunity to get better. You’ll get there
Feeling any better about it today OP?
Don't sweat it – this is advertising after all and some of the best-intended work shows up DOA through no one person's fault.
Reminds me of an old saying:
Doctors bury their mistakes.
Advertising people publish theirs.
Shake it off, learn and move forward.
There are many who say we learn mostly from failure > and not from success. Do a retro and map out what did not go so deliciously and how you would approach it differently next time > I bet you can find a couple of things you’d repeat too, even the retro itself! Hold your head high, adjust the crown and be your ultimate advocate. Take strength from this experience!!
