Some of the confusion is likely because culturally and linguistically, many people living on the Eastern seaboard of the U.S., particularly in New York, refer to anyone with any kind of Latin ancestry as “Spanish.” I.E., “Spanish Harlem.”
While someone on the West Coast will look at someone and say, “That Chicana,” or “That Puerto Rican guy,” a New Yorker will look at the same person and say, “That Spanish girl,” or “That Spanish guy.” It’s a regional quirk.
grew up in Brooklyn and we definitely called them Spanish, not Hispanic...
For example, the Puerto Rican and Dominican steam tables were all "Spanish food"

When one says “Hispanic”, it indicates originating from a Spanish speaking country or heritage- correct? It is the same for “Latino” - right?
Latino includes Brazil as well
