In private practice I chose the number of clients I saw.
When I was working in the hospital on the psych unit, my caseload really fluctuates. It could be slow or stupid crazy busy- never really steadied out.
In the schools, the caseloads are specific to Special Ed students and it was high but I would have worked with them anyway, if you know what I mean. Worked with Gen Ed kids as well, though those kids were not considered part of my caseload but worked with them nonetheless. Kids came to me all day long when I was in my office. I also handled every crisis, behavioral melt down, suicide assessments and behavioral threat assessments, MTsS mtgs, and of course I worked with a to of parents. I loved the schools and retired from k-12 in June (2024)
If you are working for the county as a clinical social worker / therapist or any other agency or organization, they usually want about 25.5 billable hours per week. On face, this may sound doable, but, you have to consider no shows. No shows do not contribute to your billable hours nor does your documentation time. Depending on where you work, they may bill for other things like phone calls or crisis intervention. Most providers find the 25 to 27 billable hours per week challenging.
