Well, i have been there as panels for multiple interviews. I prefer to turn on the camera to make the candidate comfortable and make it more as a discussion than a QA session. However, there are situations where in I can’t because am in office and didn’t get a dedicated meeting room, or am doing a parallel which is urgent and came at last moment. Rest of the points i agree with the author. Interview is never a session to show i know it all, rather it is about getting to know the person on the other end better. My motive always is to understand if the person has the intent and attitude to get the work done and if they have certain reqd skills.
however, these days interviewers think themselves as God and for which I also have walked out of many interviews and have even told them on face that the way you are talking is insulting, demeaning and unprofessional,
Respect you for the interview manners. I myself believe that it’s the responsibility of the interviewer to make the candidate feel comfortable. If not the responsibility atleast humanity/ethicaly. The candidate os always in pressure of interview and adding on to this attitude of the interviewer makes him either irritated or frustrated or timid! Both of my Deloitte interview ended with this experience where the senior manager tried to show off, acted like a God! I don’t think I’ll ever work for Deloitte in future. Also, learnt that if ill get a chance to interview someone, would never make him/her feel the way I felt !!
Anyone with a similar experience?
This phenomenon occurs exclusively.
Interviewers "Ganji-banyan" pehane rehate hain isleaye interview k waqt camera on nahi karte.
In contrast, in Europe, where I work, this practice is unheard of, and interviewers consistently ensure the camera is switched on during interviews.
Exactly! The interviewer is representing a company and should behave appropriately. I wonder what would be the team culture otherwise! At least have some decency and give respect to the person in front!
True, they don't give the same curtesy they expect from employee. All etiquette is expected from us only.
Seriously! It was so damn weird.. how can I talk looking at myself. It was so uncomfortable.
bro aisa hi hota hai, zaroori nahi interviewer apna camera on kare
Acha!! kafi weird tha.. mera hi off krwa deta.. khudki shakal dekhke kaun baat krta hai..
I had a good experience and I say I've been interviewed with multiple big 4 and all Deloitte USI Interview is best till now.. maybe happens person to person.
We are taught to respect and stay on interviews with the camera ON since it is about representing Deloitte. May be it was a one-off case, and as you know, exceptions are always there.
My interviewers of both rounds kept their video off and I could not find them in LinkedIn as well
