If YouTube was pushing russian propaganda and was based in russia, id want that regulated. If they want to operate here they need to abide by rules we set and not try to brainwash our population.
Righto, D1. I worry about people who share OPs sentiment and don’t understand the power behind TikTok and why it’s different than other apps.
As someone who spends too much time on TikTok, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that I haven't seen a single piece of Chinese or Russian propaganda. Actually, I haven't seen any propaganda from a foreign government at all. I do, however, see tons and tons of U.S. and more specifically right-wing propaganda on my For You feed. I always block this content and it keeps coming. So, the government's argument about TikTok feeding Chinese propaganda is ridiculous. Plus, social media sites like Twitter and Facebook have so many bots on the time pushing Russian agendas, so why are these sites safe and TikTok is considered the threat?

I understood it to be less about propaganda and more about the fact that the company (with its ties to foreign government) has access to your phone’s camera and microphone data. But I might be mistaken.
To start, I'll put this disclaimer: I'm not for the government deciding what people have access to, however, it would be nice if people choose to have less social media in general. We survived before it arrived, and we'll survive without it. A little more time spent unattached to our devices and media might do everyone some good.
