GRR should've gotten his shit together and finished the next book in a timely manner or took more control over the show. It's not like he was not allowed to be involved 🙄
I get what you're saying and I agree about the lack of nuances, but it's not that simple
I think a lot of people would disagree OP, but I see where you're coming from. The past two seasons have been much thicker episodes with heavier payoffs, but maybe in the process has lost the details that made the first few seasons great.
Personally, I love both the early seasons and this season, but for totally different reasons.
The show is really shoving some of these elements down our throats without the subtle nuance or genuine surprise we experienced with the earlier seasons.
Speaking as a book reader, we are also watching the story progress in a condensed and clunky manner, which is the antithesis of what we experienced from the 1,000+ pages we've read.
I don't think there is a way that these last few seasons would be able to please everyone, especially as they've outpaced the books.
Book reader and in still very much enjoying this season. The last two books were so bloated, really don't mind things being trimmed for TV.
Totally agree with you OP. Very disappointed so far.
This season is filled with leading thoughts. Jon Snow petting the dragon is literally screaming "I could be a Targerian". RR Martin would have shown it in a much much more fantastical fashion 😑🤦🏼♂️
I'd argue there is a clear parallel to this, albeit in solely book form. Robert Jordan was writing a huge fantasy series of ridiculous complexity. Then he died. The followup writer only had Jordan's major plot points and finished books at accelerated rate. Jordan's pace in the books had become glacial, much like GRRM pace in ASOIAF. These seasons feel like the final books written by the second author did - hurried, overly quick.
But the GOT acceleration doesn't bother me, because much like the Wheel of Time, it could have gone on forever if you didn't just finish it. And there is great satisfaction in getting to the end of a journey.
