Fiscally irresponsible, but better than corporate bailouts. Money would be spent / go towards businesses that are better able to compete for dollars in a COVID world - so that’s your capitalist argument as well
AC1: Treasury is giving billions to the airlines and only asking for 30% to be paid back. They’re not bailouts, they’re handouts

Why don't we just stop taxing people altogether and just print money for all federal programs?
Chief
no no no. some federal programs like the FBI dont need free money.

Normally, these policies are all limited way below my pay grade. I'm at a firm with lower salaries per level, and I could EASILY take a flex time role, drop my weekly hours and qualify for this.
And I ABSOLUTELY would. 100%
Call me lazy, but if it's between paying less taxes and getting more handouts, vs being the sucker who pays someone else for nothing in return, I'll do it.

I haven't yet because this bill proposed by Democrats isn't passed and likely won't pass at that income threshold. If it did pass, I'd take them up on the offer tomorrow. My company already sent emails lowering the requirements for being a part time worker, to encourage us to take it, and as a method to reduce layoffs.
I agree that GDP and Stock valuations are misaligned due to significant corporate and government mal-investment vs real needs/value, due to market interventions which incentivized that bad behaviour. Proposals like this will incentivized more bad behaviour.

"For those less earning less then 130k per year" really? No way that passes. You can't tell me that someone making 130k per year should be given a handout unless they have been laid off. So many other people have better uses for that money. The cap should be below 100k
i agree, 130k while not being laidoff seems unnecessarily high, even in HCOL cities. if your can make it 130k before and your situation has changed you dont need the extra money
This is a backdoor way of implementing UBI. Plus (and more importantly), we can’t afford this.

I don’t qualify for this; therefore, I am against it 🧐
But also it seems fiscally irresponsible as others have said, especially since a lot more people would be receiving a lot more money for a much longer time. Where’s this money coming from?
Chief
D2 - And how do we pay for deficit spending if not Taxes?
Won’t pass but UBI is essential.
All the republicans will bring out true and tired arguments of fiscal responsibility which they all forget when there are tax cuts .
