I am a personal injury attorney making 79k with ability to keep 40% of anything I settle, bonuses for originating work for the firm. I am 1.5 years into practicing as a Plaintiffs PI attorney - I have a review coming up - suggestions on what I should ask for as a raise. I’m new to the practice area but cannot get a read on whether a raise is coming at review - nothing but positive feedback from both partners I work with, but doesn’t

I often hear lawyers threatening to “call the judge” during a deposition, generally when there is a dispute among counsel over a question that has been asked. Has anyone ever actually done this? What exactly is the judge supposed to do, resolve the dispute over the phone?

Is there such place as non toxic ID firm? Or does any of ID attys like what they do? I moved from general practice to an ID firm six months ago. Biggest mistake of my life. I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?

I work at a small firm with not that many workable templates so I usually have to do everything from scratch like drafting motions, pleadings, and researching all potential counts every time. Do bigger firms have better and more templates that allow you to have to do less research?

I have my first solo hearing in front of opposing counsel and the Judge, were asking for a fee multiplier on a contingency case. This is in Florida BTW. Any tips or advice for my first hearing will be greatly appreciated.
