Today I had an interview with a recruiter from Oliver Wyman and she asked sal expectations and I said around 100 and she said “wow great that fits well into our budget” aka... did I say the wrong thing? Should I have asked for more? *the moment I realized acn pay is no bueno*

Not the best move but it isn’t over. Next time salary comes up (probably when you get an offer) you can just say that you’ve done research and your expectations are to get fair market value. Then give them a number (go higher as they’ll likely come back with something lower). They might say there is nothing they can do then its up to you to walk away or not. Never hurts to ask!

30 years ago when I was changing firms and was asked the same question I said $40k (20% more than I was making). The partner laughed and said “sorry, I won’t pay you less than $50k”

The first person to say a number loses bud.

likefunny

Yep, even if you come back later saying you’ve researched similar roles etc. and change your mind, you still told them you either don’t research upfront or do poorly at it

like

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but should a recruiter even react with that exact phrase?

likefunny

You shoulda done your research lol

SCs at OW make 130k at the very least

like

👀 for real?

Just because you gave a number doesn't mean you must accept that number. You still have plenty of room to negotiate. Do your research on the numbers, and wait for the offer before attempting to negotiate

like

If this was for a consulting track position, lowballing yourself won’t actually hurt you in this case, specifically at OW. We have a standard grid for consulting roles.

like

At this point I think most of the firms do to at least a certain extent so you end up leveling out to your peers after a year or so regardless

How do you avoid giving a number when asked directly what your expectations are

OW doing experienced hiring recruiting rn?

like

Yup - no general hiring freeze, but of course hiring is more selective rn

You should have said, as far as i get paid the average market price/salary for my position, I am okay with that.

like

You low balled yourself, sorry 😐

OP, who cares? If you are happy with 100, and they are happy with 100, it’s a great deal! Not everything has to be a negotiation. If you’re at the lower spectrum of the pay, it just means you’ll get better raises and may even have less pressure.

Enjoy your new role.

Nah.

like

On the flip side, you didn't price yourself out. I worked with someone who gave their salary expectations as around $120k and the HR lady came back stating that was too high and "good luck in your job search!"

What are you doing at Accenture that you make less than 100k? Must be an analyst

Yup SA

like

Thanks for your responses all, let’s see if I get to the next round lol

We are on a grid for consulting positions, so really doesn't matter what you said - won't impact the pay negatively. Just means you won't be disappointed by the final offer :)

Hi Fishes, I am new to this variable included pay structure. From my first company to current I am getting fixed pay only. So, I know how to calculate my in-hand salary with that. I can see here 10% is variable pay. I have some questions,
1. How much will be in-hand salary?
2. Is there any hidden component which may deduct from my salary?
3. How variable pay will be paid? monthly or quarterly or annually?
4. How much variable pay we will get by Average?
