Today I'll cover the worst job news and trends of 2025. Personally, I think it's all the layoffs, including those happening in the media, as I read about in a recent article. However, to look ahead to a happy 2026, I found an article on how to pivot after being laid off. What are your thoughts on the article, and what do you hope to accomplish in 2026?

It all sounds nice in theory. I have a lot of doubts about how practically applicable it is for the average American, and that includes myself. What do the ones without a "community" do? How feasible is volunteering for a non-profit for the sake of visibility when you're working a retail job to pay rent and spending every spare moment applying? With it being so hard to get a job in an industry we have experience in, is pivoting to a new one actually going to get us back working again? Or will that turn out to be effort wasted on a side quest? I'm not trying to be overly negative, I just don't know if I find any of this advice to be all that useful.
I agree, it looks like layoffs will continue into the new year, flipping the calendar won't have any effect on that. That article is okay though advice after a layoff is often dependent on the person and what field they're in. Some people, I'm afraid, may not have much to pivot toward. The best advice for anyone who has been laid off is to get their unemployment claim in and approved as soon as possible. Those systems are purposely designed not to work well in a lot of states, so you can't mess around, you have to take charge and get it done right.

I agree. I also have tried to cut back on things I don't need and have worked side gigs (I was a freelancer, so no unemployment for me). Hoping for us all to have a better new year.

Thank you for posting that link OP, I appreciate it and will remain hopeful in the new year.
