D4 is correct. The denominator is 2080.
You're utilization is based on 40 hrs week for 52 weeks, so 2080 hours. Utilization didnt care about holidays. That's why you need to work more than 40 hours to hit uti
That doesn't include the 40 hours of training you have to take, the probably 2-3 60+ hour proposals you end up doing and the 40-70 hours of other firm contributions you need to do or you'll get a bad rating because the partners are clueless about realities on the ground.
How do you get to 90% when you have to do all that and can only bill 40 hours a week?
Oh and when you would like to actually use your PTO at some point.
also, to address SC1 above, firm holidays/wellness days and learning hours (DU) all affect your utilization
Yeah it's a complete sham. They talk about how they care about mental well being and yet this forced time off hurts utilization. Made even worse because they upped the targets in federal for the 2nd year in a row.
They're all liars.
True. There is no hit to PTO. However, any time not billable to client is a hit to utilization. As a reference, some Deloitte practitioners do not use their full PTO and let it lapse to chase utilization numbers, that’s the potential catch, but can be planned for
@BTA1 I'm sorry they lied to you. They're gonna do that a lot.
SC1 when they added the extra days to get us to the full week they didn’t reduce our utilization targets
It’s consulting, your expected to work more than 40 hours a week or your in danger with the firm
Yeah, catch is that it crushes the utilization target we have used to determine our bonus and promotion heheh
Average bonus for TS/SCI is 2500 per year.
@D4 you are 100% sure about that?
90. Was 85 when I started though and a federal proposal can literally take 60+ hours to do and don't count as billable. Plus some contracts are capped at 40 hours/week so good luck getting firm contributions, training and hitting your utilization while using your PTO. There's literally not enough time in the year.
The reason it was so much lower in the past is because we are paid way less and federal proposals take forever to do.
Can't if your contract prohibits it.
Everything is a hit to utilization. It’s hours. The utilization isn’t really percentage. It’s hours. you need to hit the # of hours. For percentage. It’s to make you feel like it’s ok. The denominator is 2080 which is 52 wks. I’m in federal and I have billed over 40 a lot of weeks. After you are staffed it’s not hard. Im 12% over utilization now but plan on taking 3 wks off. -yes most of that is the Deloitte Christmas time. Also don’t forget some contracts roll people on and off with short notice. Definitely try to keep utilization up when you can. Start liking winter vacation. So then you can take your vacation if you are over
It's not "forced time off" by the way... My team still has to provide minimum coverage to our client.
I plan on working through 1/3 ~ 1/2 of it. Will allow me good 1-on-1 time with the client and keep my utililization up, since I'm planning on going up in March.
One catch for me is that I would have used PTO to that week off anyway, so I lose that a PTO on Dec 31
OP, the clearance bonus and annual bonus are two separate things. FedSec sends out an email letting you know if you're eligible (based on hiring date for your first one, and whether or not you're on a project using that clearance). It's paid out 2 times per year, and the dates seem to change each year.
Annual bonus is based on performance. Its paid out in Sept each year.
True... and, I don’t think it counts against utilization. Pretty sure your utilization % doesn’t include firm holidays/wellness days. But could be wrong.
What happens if you work 40 hours a week and take all your pto and holidays without making up that utilization time but still perform really well? Could you still have a good career with regular progression or would it endanger you with the firm?
