Oh man, I didn’t know copywriting *was* a choice. Spent 3-4 years faking it as a web developer before I found out I could be doing this. Spent the next 10-15 overjoyed that this is a job that exists and suits me.
Yes...then I realized I can't write.
Found out copywriting is a job - within a week I quit my job, flew from LA back home to NY to ATL, and started my life at the creative circus.
No it was TV writing
I wanted to be a journalist right up til the 2016 election
No, I wanted to be an editor at a fashion magazine. Thankfully I took a copywriting class in college right when I realized that career wasn’t for me.
I was unhappy doing something else. Then an ECD met me at a party and thought I had the personality of a 90s copy bro. The agency failed because of decisions like that.
No.
Yes
I didn’t even know it was a career when it was time to choose a career. The 2 to 37 careers—depending on what you consider a career—I had before this have served me well, though. I bring a lot of perspective to the work.
No ragrets.
Yes. 100%
Worked as an AD for a year before seeing the light.
Lol NO
Didn’t even know it ways a job until I was 25. Before that I tried engineering (didn’t make it through sophomore year), law (hated being a paralegal, decided against law school), brand side marketing (you’ve met those people, intolerable), then went to portfolio school with a bunch of recent grads who had never had a job in their lives.
English degree and didn't want to teach or make coffee. So, yes.
S/O to Scorpion. I used to work there for a while.
Yes. Unfortunately.
Nope. Professional rugby.
Did it, realized it wouldn’t last, became a fashion journalist, stumbled into copywriting, ended up an ECD, the end.
