Your vote matters. Maybe not in the 2012 GOP Iowa Caucus sense, where Santorum won by roughly three dozen votes, but think about yourself as one of perhaps several hundred thousand voters every cycle who stay home for the same reason. If you collectively decided to vote, through some psychological stimulus, you would almost certainly affect the outcome of an election.
Sigh...it's just logic dude. Doesn't mean you can't affect election outcomes with other social impact movements influencing large groups. Crazy how anti-logic people get when you lay out that their individual vote doesn't matter.
BCG1: My point is that a lot of people for varying reasons don't see voting as rational or necessary or a ton of other things. And thus we end up with more polarized politics because the more activist/extreme people are the ones most likely to actually vote. It's fine to define the value of your vote in terms of game theory, it's not fine to apply that to how you engage with the electoral system. It's reductive and ultimately corrosive to society.
Hah. "into oblivion."
I take comfort in the fact that the people who don't understand the difference between a Socialist and a Democratic Socialist don't work for my firm.
What about Bernie and taxes? Heard he is gonna increase the taxes?

Don't mean to play the race card here but those who up voted trump is very likely to be white.
McK1- yep, but you're attaching symbolic value to it (which is fine). The utility of the voting act is nothing, versus the small amount of effort required to make it. So in order for it to be rational to vote, you have to believe in a symbolic value beyond actually affecting the election outcome.
D2, you should know by now that just because she says something, doesn't make it true. At least Bernie is honest about being a socialist. Hillary is still in the closet because it isn't popular enough for her to say it yet.
Bernie is honest, Hillary is bullshit. Both of them are idiots though. Hillary is just a puppet of big money though
BCG1: you haven't explained why it's irrational to think one vote will count. Elections can be won by a statistically insignificant number of votes - a couple of thousand in a country of many millions - due to the electoral college system. In that instance, a few thousand people thinking like economists is going to make a very big difference.

Very strange year, but dear god, anyone besides Trump or Bernie...
Rand Paul. But not anymore sadly. I'll vote for anyone to stop a socialist.
Deloitte 2- real solid argument there.
Accenture 8- see my response to Deloitte 2. Your actual vote is cast individually, not as thousands of people.
D2- don't disagree...I was just answering the poster's question about the mechanics of my individual vote.
