I just started at a new firm a few months ago, practicing in a new area. The 2 partners I was hired to work with both put in 2 weeks notice at the same time and all of their stuff is getting moved to myself and other attorneys who are also new to the firm and started after I did. I know that you can just give 2 weeks and leave, but I am so overwhelmed since it’s a new area and I’ve always had more of a second chair role. I don’t want to screw something up and feeling frustrated.

For folks who recently got their EAD, how long from the time of filing your I-485 did you get it?

Anyone who filed PERM in August - September 2020 received approvals?

Has anyone experienced delay in getting physical copy of the H-1B approval notice? The USCIS portal says - the case has been approved. Is it safe to join new firm based on approval notification?

I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Assuming that if I ask the partners they’ll say to use my discretion, what are reasonable hours to keep?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

Last associates committee meeting is coming up. Partners have asked each associate to come up with... not one... but FIVE marketing ideas. Other than reeling out “we offer competitive pay” in job postings, what are some good ones your firm does?

I’m struggling a bit. If I knew how to market well, I certainly wouldn’t be in this position.

I know some of my colleagues are recording their standard fees as time so that it counts towards their billable hours. It infuriates me but am I just being naive by not doing the same?

If someone wanted to bring a lawsuit against their former employer would a general contingency arrangement with a plaintiff’s firm make sense? Second year associate here. How should I deal with the one partner in my practice group who seems to exclusively give me lousy assignments that we’ll never get paid for? I get great work from everyone else.
